Contact
We aim to reply within 2 business days. CalmPaw is made by one person, so if it takes a little longer, it isn't being ignored.
To help us help you faster, please include:
- What you were doing when the problem happened
- What you expected, and what happened instead
- Your iPhone model and iOS version (iOS Settings → General → About)
- Your CalmPaw version (CalmPaw → Settings, shown at the bottom)
Please don't send screenshots that show your home address or full walking routes. We don't need them, and we'd rather you didn't have to share them. A cropped screenshot or a description is plenty.
Common questions
My walk isn't recording a route
Check iOS Settings → CalmPaw → Location. It needs to be set to While Using the App, with Precise Location turned on. If location is off or denied, CalmPaw still records the walk as a timer, but there's no map or route.
Also make sure Location Services is on globally (iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services), and that you're not in Low Power Mode, which can throttle GPS.
The route stopped recording when I locked my screen
CalmPaw keeps recording in the background during an active walk, and iOS shows a blue indicator while it does. If it stopped:
- Confirm the walk was actually still running (not paused or ended).
- Make sure you didn't force-quit the app by swiping it away from the app switcher. iOS will not restart a force-quit app to continue location updates.
- Check that Background App Refresh is enabled for CalmPaw.
If a walk was interrupted, CalmPaw tries to recover it the next time you open the app.
GPS distance seems wrong
GPS accuracy varies with tall buildings, tree cover, and weather. CalmPaw discards points with poor accuracy, which is usually better than logging a wildly wrong distance — but it can make a short walk read low. Distances are approximate by nature.
I'm not getting medication reminders
- Make sure the medication is active and its reminder is turned on in the app.
- Check iOS Settings → CalmPaw → Notifications and confirm notifications are allowed.
- Check whether a Focus mode or Do Not Disturb is filtering them.
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Please treat them as a convenience, not as a safety-critical alarm — don't rely on CalmPaw as the only reminder for a dose that matters.
I don't want medication names showing on my lock screen
Reminder text includes the medication name. To hide it, go to iOS Settings → Notifications → Show Previews and choose When Unlocked or Never. You can also turn individual reminders off in CalmPaw.
I paid for Plus but it isn't showing up
Open CalmPaw → Settings → Restore Purchases, and make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account that made the purchase. If it still doesn't appear, email us with the date of purchase and we'll help you work through it with Apple.
How do I cancel my subscription?
iOS Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → CalmPaw. Cancel there. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Cancelling never deletes your journal. Your walks, routes, notes, and history stay put, and free features — including CSV and JSON export — keep working. Only the Plus screens re-lock.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled entirely by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I got a new iPhone. Where's my data?
This is the most important thing to know about CalmPaw, so please read it carefully.
CalmPaw stores everything on your device and has no cloud backup. Your journal moves to a new iPhone only through:
- An iPhone backup — restoring your new phone from an iCloud or encrypted computer backup brings CalmPaw's data with it. This is the normal path and works for most people.
- A household handoff file (CalmPaw Plus) — exports a dog's complete journal as an encrypted file you can send to another device.
Setting up a new iPhone as "new" rather than restoring from a backup will not bring your journal across. Restoring your Plus purchase restores access to features, not your data.
If you're about to switch phones, export first.
How do I back up or get my data out?
CalmPaw → Settings → Export. CSV and JSON are free and include your walks, encounters, notes, and medication records. The Plus PDF share pack is designed for handing to a trainer or vet, and deliberately contains no GPS coordinates.
How do I delete my data?
See the Data Deletion page. Short version: Settings → Delete all CalmPaw data, or delete the app.
Do you have my data? Can you see my walks?
No. CalmPaw has no servers and no accounts, and the app contains no networking code — your journal is never sent to us or to anyone else. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
This also means we can't recover anything for you. Please keep backups on.
Does CalmPaw work on iPad, Apple Watch, or Android?
Not currently. CalmPaw is an iPhone app requiring iOS 18 or later.
Feature requests and bugs
Both are welcome at support@calmedpaws.app. Concrete descriptions of what you were trying to do beat feature names — the underlying problem is usually the more useful thing to hear.
